George Erasmus is a former leader of the Assembly of First Nations, Chaired the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, has been granted several honorary doctorates and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. He is a very distinguished Canadian. In the video posted below, he is giving a speech that was carried by the CBC. He talks about the present plight of First Nation people, about rights that they have been denied and asks what Canada is going to do to make the future better.
1. Mention two rights that George Erasmus says has been denied to Aboriginals. He mentions quite a few.(2)
2. Mention a couple of ways Residential schools would have made life more difficult for the Aboriginal communities.(2)
3. If you were Prime Minister, what would you do to better the life of First Nation communities in this country. This is a big question, think carefully and defend your actions in your answer (4).
